About the book
Synopsis
The Pursuit of Understanding is an intellectual autobiography about learning to move beyond first explanations. Beginning with literature as a method of inquiry, it traces the continuing work of reading experience, education, identity and the structures that shape belief. Development is not presented as a clean progression from ignorance to certainty, but as a practice of recognising patterns, confronting contradictions and revising what once appeared settled. Through reflection on interpretation and learning, the book asks how understanding can deepen without becoming another form of simplification. It is a study of the mind in revision and of the discipline required to remain open when an easy answer would be more comfortable.
